In Montreal, on November 1, 2024, at the age of 79 years and 5 months, Father Gilles Barrette, of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) community, passed away.

He was the son of the late Bernadette Arscott and the late Roland Barrette. He is survived by his confreres of the community, as well as his sisters and brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Philippe (Sabine Anctil) and their children Guillaume (Catherine Belley), Julie (Christian Larochelle) and Alexandre, Monique (Roger Ouellet) and their children Myriam (Marc-Olivier Girard) and Sophie (David Drainville), Diane (André Fournier), Cyrille, Luce (Anne Gagnon), Madeleine (Benoit Anctil), Sylvain (Danielle Dubé) and their children François, Félix and Jean. He is also survived by cousins from the Geoffroy, Arscott and Macelli families, as well as friends and partners in his evangelization work.
