Barbara Nugent
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Nugent on October 15, 2024, at the Centre d'hébergement de Acton Vale, Quebec, at the age of 90.
Born on September 17, 1934, in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, to John Nugent and Emelia Poirier, Barbara lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husbands: André Massé, Harold Cheeseman, and John Peel, the father of her children. She was also predeceased by her brothers, James and Raymond Nugent.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her children, O'Reilly Peel, Shelley Peel (Denis Lavoie), and James Peel (Geneviève Bienvenu); her brother John "Jackie" (Annette Nugent), and her sisters Mary-Ellen and Margaret-Anne (Martin Richardson).
Barbara was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: the late Melanie, Benjamin (Caroline Tremblay), Stephanie (Martin Thibault), Tanya, Geneviève, and Marie-Audrey (Kevin Duprey). She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Léonie, Jacob, Océane, John, and Shawn, as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Théo and Noah. She will be fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Sylvie Massé (Michel Gervais), their daughter Kim( Steeve Legault), and their children Vincent and Audrey.
Barbara is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom were dear to her heart.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at the Centre d'hébergement de Acton Vale, La Maison Célestine, and La Résidence Bourg-Joli, for their devoted care since October 2020.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place on Friday, October 25th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Urgel Bougie Athos Funeral Complex, 3955, chemin Côte-de-Liesse, St-Laurent, Quebec, H4N 2N6.
Barbara will be interred at the St-Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, on Monday, October 28th, at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory can be made to the Douglas Foundation at fondationdouglas.qc.ca, to support mental health research and care.
Barbara’s warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit will be missed by her family, friends, and all those who loved her dearly.
