Agata Carbone
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law, Nonna, Great Nonna, sister-in-law, Zia (Aunt), and dear friend to many, Agata (Tina), two months shy of her 99th year.
Predeceased by her husband, Pantaleo, in 1987 after 37 years of marriage, she leaves behind her children, Nunzio (Johanne), Pasquale (Lucia), and Rosa (John); her cherished grandchildren, Jessica (Paolo), Bianca (Derek), Massimo, and Gian Piero; her great-grandchildren, Emma, Matteo, Siena, and Miles. She is also survived by her sister Maria, sisters-in-law, Franca and Rosa, her nieces, nephews both near and far, her goddaughters, and numerous close friends.
A humble and modest person. Her legacy is one of love, honor, respect, generosity, friendship and a strong belief in God. There was no truer friend than our mother, Tina.
Born in Bernalda , Italy, later moved to Bisceglie, Puglia with her family. Met the love of her life in Bisceglie (on September 25!!) at age 21, married at 24 and immigrated to Montreal with Nunzio her eldest son, to join her husband, arriving through Pier 21 in Halifax, via the SS Conte Biancamano.
She was a talented stylist, seamstress, dedicated to her work and yet whipped up a meal at the drop of a hat. She was a gifted family historian, conversationalist and always ready to listen and offer her advice.
We offer our heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers over the past 18 months: Raffaella, Madonna, Ruby, Edith, Carmen, including the CLSC staff, and more recently, the compassionate doctors, nurses, and PABs at the Jewish General Hospital. Your care made her final transition more peaceful.
The day prior to her passing while I made my way to see her, I saw two butterflies flying together. I knew the day had come for her to reunite with her husband, our Papa and all our / her previously departed family members and friends, of which she had so many.
We will deeply miss her daily calls, her prayers, and the thoughtful wisdom she offered to everyone. She surrounded us with her peaceful nature, acceptance, and boundless wisdom, no matter what life brought her way. She will always be our Matriarch, guiding light and example of human dignity.
Some of her favorite sayings were:
"La vita è bella."Non sarà mai più scuro della mezzanotte.“Dio provede.” “Pazienza!”. “Parlate in Italiano, perpiacere!”
Yes, Mom, we miss you. We have been mourning you for a long time now preparing for this moment, yet we still were not ready. May you rest in the arms of your grande amore, our babbo Leo, in eternal peace and love.
The family will receive condolences on October 3, 2024 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Urgel Bourgie / Athos Funeral Complex located at 6700 Beaubien Street in Montreal.
A memorial service will be on October 4 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the complex.
