Gloria Eugenia Pilgrim
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Eugenia Pilgrim, who passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at the age of 88. Gloria was born on February 13, 1936, in Trinidad, to her beloved parents, Granville and Irene Pilgrim, both of whom predeceased her.
Gloria was one of nine children. She is preceded in death by her siblings Eileen Hull, Gladstone Pilgrim, Hugh Pilgrim, Lennox Pilgrim, and Oscar Pilgrim. She is survived by her sisters Barbara Miller, Lorna Wiltshire, and Mercia Pilgrim. Her love for family extended far beyond her immediate circle, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and care with her surviving daughter Roxanne Goodridge Lee Hing, and grandson Tevin Goodridge. Gloria is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cherished friends.
In the 60’s, Gloria made the bold decision to immigrate to Canada, where she built a beautiful life in Montreal. She quickly became an integral part of her local parish, where she found a home for her faith and her love of community. Gloria served as the head of the lectors and was an active participant in the Legion of Mary, as well as numerous prayer groups both within and outside the parish. She was known for her impeccable sense of style, always dressed “to the nines,” with a vibrant spirit that radiated through everything she did.
Though she made her life in Canada, Gloria never forgot her roots. Her love for her homeland, Trinidad, was always evident, and she stayed deeply connected to her culture. She was actively involved in the Black Community Association, helping to organize special events that celebrated and uplifted the community. Gloria had a deep love for calypso and soca music and a passion for dance. Even in the weeks leading up to her passing, the sounds of her cultural music would bring a smile to her face, and she would tap her feet and move her shoulders in rhythm to the songs of her homeland.
Gloria’s warmth, grace, and boundless love will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she loved so deeply.?
May she rest in eternal peace.
The family will receive condolences at the Urgel Bourgie funeral complex (1275 Dollard, LaSalle) on September 9, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and on September 10, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at St. John Brébeuf Parish (7777 George St, LaSalle).
