It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gregorio Cortese at the age of 99. Gregorio was born in Chiaravalle , Catanzaro, Italy on September 28, 1924. He died peacefully with his family by his side on July 6, 2024. He was a devoted family man and a cherished husband to the late, Rosa Pingitore, to whom he was married to for 61 years.

Gregorio was a wonderful father to Barbara (Fernando Iozzo), Frank (Anna Borzacchini); an amazing, attentive grandfather to Carlo (Lina), Bruno (Amanda), Gregory (Sophie), Alexander, Alyssa and a dear great-grandfather to Arabella, Matteo, Luca & Leo. He leaves a great void in their hearts.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Dominic, Angela, Giuseppe & Caterina, and is survived by his sister Elisabetta. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends & family.

Gregorio left his native homeland in Italy and came to Canada in 1951. His determination, hard work and self survival, all contributed to the well being of his family. He left this world having touched many, and was referred to as “Nonno Gregory” even by friends and acquaintances.

The family wishes to thank everyone that helped care for Gregorio with compassion & dignity: St. Mary’s Hospital Palliative Care Team, 5 South Medical Staff, Cardiology, Dr. Walker, Nurse Practitioners Emilie & Shannon, CLSC staff Megan & Mark.

The family will receive condolences at Urgel Bourgie Funeral Home (1275 Dollard, Lasalle, Qc) on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 9 a.m.to 10 a.m.

A funeral mass will be held at Madre dei Cristiani Church (7935 rue Lefebvre, Lasalle, Qc. ) on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. followed by the burial at Notre- Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery (Mausoleum Ester Blondin).
