Jonathan Andr Chouinard

1981-2023

Information

Jonathan André Chouinard, best known as Jon, passed away on December 15th, 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand from natural causes. Jon was born on February 22nd, 1981 in Montréal, Québec, and will be remembered with great fondness for his generosity of spirit and love of life.

During his early life, Jon attended Richelieu Valley high school followed by CEGEP at Champlain College. He spent a year at York University before completing a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature at Concordia. Seeking adventure, Jon spent several years in South Korea teaching English, achieving a black belt in Gumdo, and developing an appreciation for different cultures. He returned to Canada, teaching in the Cree community of Wemindji, but South East Asia called, and Jon was next off to Thailand to continue teaching English. He found a home in Thailand, but most importantly he met and fell in love with Fay. Jon and Fay married on May 3rd, 2019, and began building their lives: purchasing a beautiful house, and chasing around their beloved pets, Calvin and Milo. Despite his busy schedule, he completed his Master’s Degree at University of Nottingham in 2022.

Throughout his travels, Jon made numerous friends and developed a wide array of interests. He was a steadfast presence in the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, sense of humour, and charm. He was dedicated to his family and friends and it is not uncommon to hear tales of the herculean efforts he would undertake to show his love for his biological and chosen family.

He is survived by his wife, Fay Chouinard; his parents, André Chouinard and Gail Humphrey; his brother, Sebastian Humphrey; his loving aunts and uncles; and his extended family and countless friends in Maine, Quebec, and throughout the world. Jonathan was predeceased by his mother, Judith Comeau.

The family will receive condolences and hold a memorial for all family and friends on May 4th at the Montreal Memorial Garden and Funeral Complex, 3955 Côte de Liesse Road, Ville Saint-Laurent.
