1926-2024

Brother Lionel Poitras, of the Christian Brothers community, Doctor of Letters from Fribourg, Switzerland, died at St. Mary's Hospital, Montreal, on February 11, 2024, at the age of 97 years and 6 months. Son of Antonio Poitras and Albertine Cloutier, he was born in Saint-Eugène-de-Guigues, Témiscamingue, on July 19, 1926.

Joining the F.É.C. in 1944, he devoted himself to educating young people for some 40 years, mainly in Montreal (Saint-Léon-de-Westmount, Salaberry, Saint-Paul and especially Collège Marie-Victorin). From 1989, he worked on the community's publications and archives.

In addition to members of his religious family, he is survived by his sister, Jeanne (late Gaston Lavallée) and sisters-in-law, Jeannette Cadieux (late Ghislain) and Yvette Lafontaine (late Jean-Paul), as well as many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at the Résidence De La Salle, 300 chemin du Bord de l'Eau, Laval, on Tuesday, February 20 at 10 a.m., with viewing of the body beginning at 9 a.m. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, Montreal.
