Jean Annabelle Moore
MOORE, Ms. Jean Annabelle. December 12, 1936-January 28, 2024. Peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 87 after a brave battle with Multiple Myeloma. She is survived by her beloved daughters Valerie Brewster (Montréal) and Beverly Brewster (Los Angeles), cherished siblings Joycelyn Moore (Toronto), Burchfield Moore (New York), Douglas Moore (Syracuse), John Moore (Virginia), several loved nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends. Daughter of the late John Joseph Moore (Guyana) & Christina Moore (née Gilkes) (Guyana). Predeceased by siblings Grace Lewis (née Moore), Kenrick Moore, Patricia Ellis (née Moore), and Winston Moore.
Jean emigrated from Guyana, South America to Montréal in 1959 as an Au Pair and worked for two years before finding her calling as a Registered Nursing Assistant in 1961 at the Douglas Hospital Centre. After a remarkable career where she formed lasting friendships with so many, Jean retired in the year 2000. A valued member of many organizations, Jean was a treasured leader and friend, as well as a lifelong learner, most recently of the steel pan which she enjoyed tremendously.
Jean is well remembered for her outstanding cooking and baking and for her love of travel. She will be greatly missed by members of the Guyana Cultural Association, The Council for Black Aging Community, The Congress of Black Women Canada, and the Barbados House Association.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 10 am Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Cote-des-Neiges, 3970 Cote-Sainte-Catherine
Rd. As Jean was a lover of bright colours, we invite attendees to dress colourfully, if they choose. The family will host a visitation from 4 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, February 15 at Urgel Bourgie Feron funeral home, LaSalle, 1275 Dollard Ave.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) and the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca) are welcome.
