John Sarakinos

It is with great sadness that we announce that Yianni “John” Sarakinos, born on April 10, 1935, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 9, 2024 in Montreal, Quebec.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Vassiliki Paparis (mother of Catherine, Anthony and Helen), his mother Ekaterina, his stepmother Kerkyra and his father Antoni. He is survived by a long list of people who loved him dearly including his wife Despina Kantas, his children Catherine, Anthony and Helen (Jake), his stepdaughter Sophia (Nicolas), his beloved grandchildren Symeon, Alexandra, Theophane, Dimitri, Milo, Kerkyra, Emanuel and Ella, his brothers Nikolas (Eleni) and Efthimios (Patricia) and his many beloved nieces and nephews.

Yianni loved to spend time with his family and friends, cooking, singing, and spending summers in Corfu. He was a talented chef, a passionate gardener and had a kind heart that would be the first to offer help to anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

May his memory be eternal.

Visitation will be held at the Urgel Bourgie/Athos Funeral Home at 1255 Beaumont Ave, Montreal on Monday, January 15th, 2023 from 4pm-9pm.

A Funeral mass will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 2455 Chemin de la Côte-Sainte Catherine, Montreal on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at 10:00am to be followed by the burial at Mount Royal Cemetery at 11:00am.
