Michele Vincelli
In loving memory of Michele Vincelli.
Mike was born in Casacalenda in the Province of Campobasso in the region of Molise, Italy, on January 4, 1936. Enduring many hardships during World War II, Mike immigrated to Canada with his family in 1953 at the age of 16, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax aboard the vessel Saturnia on March 29. A strapping young man, he quickly found work with Pom Bakery, then with Canadian National Railway and finally found a rewarding career with Sidbec-Dosco.
Mike fell in love with and married Gina Onesi in May 1960. The happy couple eventually purchased their first and only home in LaSalle, Quebec where they cultivated a life filled with love, family and joy. He was a devoted husband to Gina and a caring father to his children, Linda and Mary. Mike's dedication extended beyond family, as he pursued his career as a steelworker with Sidbec-Dosco, showcasing his diverse skills and commitment to hard work. His great sense of humour preceded him. He was mischievous, always ready for a good laugh or an opportunity to pull off a great prank.
Mike was known as "MacGyver". He planned and completed many of the household projects for his family and friends. Given enough time, he could fix anything. In his leisure time, Mike found great enjoyment working in his beloved garden, or spending time with his friends on the golf course and in the local bowling leagues. His passion for these hobbies reflected his zest for life and his charming personality brought joy to those around him. Parkinsons eventually robbed him of these hobbies, but he found pleasure in family and the simple things as he fought valiantly and courageously against the ravages of the disease for more than a decade.
Mike leaves behind a legacy as a loving husband and father, a hard worker, and a man with a fabulous sense of humour. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may the memories of his vibrant spirit continue to bring comfort and warmth to all who knew him.
The family will receive condolences at the Urgel Bourgie funeral home, located at 1275 Dollard in LaSalle, where a service will also be held, on December 12, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., with a celebration at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity benefitting children or animals would be appreciated.
Please join us in wishing Mike safe travels to the next.
