Cynthia Cockburn
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Cynthia Christabel Conliffe on November 22, 2023. Her family and friends surrounded her with music, love and comfort in her final moments.
Chris was born to Egbert and Minelva Cockburn in Windward Lowmans in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines on March 2, 1940. She attended Emmanuel High School before studying at Teacher’s College and pursuing a teaching career at her primary school, Lowman’s Windward Anglican School, in 1958. She met the love of her life, Jonathan “Maurice” Conliffe, in 1960. They married on August 15, 1963, and then emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. For over 30 years she worked as a keypunch operator and in data entry at RCA, Marconi, Bank of Montreal, and BASF, before starting her own successful business, designing children’s clothing, under the name Triple C Creations, which was profiled in the Montreal Gazette newspaper.
Chris was a woman of many talents who enjoyed baking, cooking, and singing. Her generosity, wit, and faith made her even more special. If you met her, you remembered her. She was a mother figure to dozens, a mentor to hundreds, and an inspiration to countless. But her greatest joy in life was being a wife to “Mau”, her adored husband of 60 years, and a proud mother to Phyllis, Leslie, and Stacey.
She is predeceased by her parents, her seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her sister, Isabella, loved ones, including Cornelius, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, godchildren and grand-godchildren. While her daughters and husband will miss her deeply, they know that her God was waiting for her with open arms.
Heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at the Jewish General Hospital - especially Dr. Petr Kavan, Natalie Leon, and Joussy Mikhail - and Wilfe "Fe" Tangonan for her tireless dedication, care, and support.
