Bernard (Bernie) MacMahon died peacefully on Friday April 7th, after a long and happy life. Bernie was one of six children from the village of Shinrone, Co. Offaly in Ireland. As a young lad, he was a renowned sportsman and student, playing hurling in the school boys’ All Ireland final with St. Flannan's. In his twenties he went to California as a school teacher, later moving to Montreal to teach English and History at D’Arcy McGee high school. A keen golfer, he met Marie-Thérèse Walsh at the Tara Golf Association in 1969, and they were married that year, for a happy 43 years until she passed away in 2012.
