Pierre Assalian
It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Pierre Assalian announces his passing after a succumbing to a brief but courageous battle with leukemia on September 25th at the age of 75.
He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 51 years, Elisabeth Assalian (Bédirian) and his children Patrick (Karen McTavish), Joseph (Brigitte Gélinas), Brigitte (Chris Magoutis), and his 9 grandchildren: Cameron, Thomas, Noah, Sandrine, Simon, Nicolas, Alexandra, Thomas Lucas and Christina.
He will also be forever in the hearts of his brothers Antoine (Antoinette Minas) and André (Anne McCullough), his sisters-in-law Thérèse (late Georges Ashba), Marie Rose (Nabil Khoury), Alice (Adel Milky) as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Pierre was man of faith and devoted his life to his family and to his work as a psychiatrist – he proudly referred to his students as his “professional children” and cared for the well-being of his patients. Dedicated to his 45-year career at the Montreal General Hospital, he was an inspiration to his colleagues and leaves his mark in the field of psychiatry and human wellness.
He was Executive Director of CSRF (Canadian Sex Research Forum) and Founder of the Human Sexuality Unit; in addition, he was the ever-popular “Love Doctor” on the Mix96 radio in the 1990s. He was often a guest speaker at various conferences and was passionate about teaching others.
He was a global traveler who loved sharing these trips with his wife as well as family vacations with his children and grandchildren.
The visitation will be held on Friday October 2nd 2020 by invitation-only, given restrictive measures. Funeral mass and burial will be held on Saturday October 3rd 2020 for immediate family only.
