Loretta Taddeo (née DiGiovanni)

Born in Montreal, on December 10, 1916, died on July 12, 2007 at the McGill University Health Center (RHV site) surrounded by her loved ones. Loretta displayed great strength and dignity in the face of her fifteen year struggle with Parkinson's disease. Pre-deceased by her husband of sixty-three years, Donat (Sr.) and infant daughter Angeline, she leaves behind her children Dominic (Angela Nucci), Ronald, Antoinette, Donat Jr. (Brigitte St-Laurent), Frank (Mary Piccinini), her cherished grandchildren Anthony (Lisa Pomkoski), Mark Carlo, Daniela (Robert Macri), Francesca, Julia, great-grandchildren Jack, Brooke and Sara, her sister Nancy, nephews and nieces and dear family friend Helen Lanthier.
The daughter of Antonietta Baccanale and Angelo DiGiovanni, who both emigrated from Italy to Canada in the early 1900s, and sister to Lucy, Nancy, Josephine, Mary, Michael and Suzie, Loretta attended Holy Cross Elementary School in Ville Emard and then worked at Imperial Tobacco until her marriage to Donat Taddeo in 1938. Three elements marked her life: faith, which she inherited from her parents and which she instilled with determination in her children through word and deed; family, to whose spiritual and physical health she committed her life selflessly and lovingly; and food, through which she expressed her talent, creativity and limitless generosity for others.

Although she suffered the ravages of Parkinson's, her inner strength, determination and lucidity were sources of inspiration to all who knew her.
Very special thanks to Ron for the constant and attentive care, especially these last five years, as well as to Antoinette, for her sustained and loving support. Their presence was instrumental to the quality of her life and her longevity.

Special thanks also to Monica, Vidya, Angie, Shirley, Francine, Harriet, Nina, Phyllis Judge and CLSC Verdun//Côte St-Paul for their care-taking assistance and to Dr. Jose Morais, geriatric specialist at the McGill University Health Care Center for his kind and considerate presence.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to L'Oeuvre du Frère André, St. Joseph's Oratory, 3880 Chemin Queen Mary, Montreal, Quebec, H3V 1H6, or to Les Oeuvres du Cardinal Leger, 130 avenue de l'Epee, Outremont, Qc, H2V 3T2.
