George Saba
It is with "bright sadness" that this weekend we celebrate the life of our kind, sweet, ever- patient, husband, father and grandfather, George Saba, who passed away from a chronic condition known as sarcoidoisis, which was a fibrosis in his lungs. George was the most wonderful husband to this California chick, Janice Nicola Saba, and devoted loving father to Marie (Joseph Zogaib), Joy (Elias Hajjar), Katherine (George Chalhoub) and Thomas (Lillian Kishek). Son of the late Mary and Chehade Saba, and dearest brother to Jeannette, Rachel, Nancy (Bob Lawand) and Linda (Norbert Dawalibi), most doting cousins Diane Nemer, Georgina Saba, Dr.Paul Saba, John Saba Jr., and Raymond Saba, and all the Shamies. Sweetest Giddo to Rose, uke, Jasmine, Maya, Dahlia, Zoe, Michael, Claire and Nicholas! He will be lovingly remembered by his many precious Godchildren/ nephew and nieces, in Montreal, Toronto , Idaho, and California. We are thankful for the cute happy times , every sunday afternoon in Sittos Kitchen, eating kibbee and kusa, with George smiling at the Head of the Table. These family moments were the bright shining lights in his life and his smile was as big as the ocean at those warm Sunday gatherings after Church.
George was proud of his Lachine roots, and especially enjoyed his Saturdays with his best buddy Donny Blackmore, who would ride his bike 10 miles in the good weather, to Beaconsfield, every week to bring lots of laughter, stories, business, sports talk, and keen philosophical reflections. His invaluable friendship is a part of who we are, and who we have become.
Especially bringing lots of joy and friendship to George during his lifetime, was his beloved childhood Church, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, shepherded by his cousin/brother Economos Antony Gabriel who uplifted our lives in untold ways, with his wit, intelligence, compassion and steady loyal friendship and guidance. The 70's Think Tank at St. George, consisting of the dynamic "Gang of Seven" , Parish Council Buddies and lifelong friends, Nelson Barakett, Sam Haddad, Larry Rossy,Bob Michael, cousin Emile Shamie, cousin Dr. Bob David, and cousin Economos Father Antony Gabriel, were a mighty force to be reckoned with, and helped shape the history of our beloved Parish. We give thanks for the many years of love and friendship of all our Parish Family at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, our Home, our Family. All the Sunday School parties, Picnics, Church Camps, heavenly Choir Music, and stimulating Sermons, were the foundation and structure of our life.
The ultimate professional fulfillment came from George's work as an Canadian Economist, forecasting and writing, consulting with clients and always believing and affirming a strong confidence in our Canadian Business Structure. His primary focus was on macroeconomics research, analysis and forecasting with specific relevance to financial markets and investment decision-making.
He had an illustrious career as Vice President and Chief Economist at Greenshields, and then joined Montreal Trust, MD Management, and his greatest fulfillment came at Letko/Brosseau, Inc. with his most competent and kind secretary Johanne Tremblay, who was a rock by his side. George was so honored to work for and be affiliated with Daniel and Peter, and the stellar Team at Letko/Brosseau. He looked forward to work every day of his ten years there, with a spring in his step. Snow, sleet, detours, rain or shine, George made the hour commute always listening to his favorite french interview talk show, Paul Arcand, his bouncy 50's music, and Russian Composers. It was more than a pleasure, and a great fulfillment in his life, to be a part of the Canadian Business Culture, the Cedars Home for the Elderly, and the Montreal Board of Trade.
Special thanks to Cardiologist Dr. David Langleben, and Pulmonologist Dr. Donald Boudreau, and just the last few weeks, the beautiful caring nurses and caseworkers at the CLSC St. Louis, Sara and Chantal, and palliative doctors Dr. Ianku and Dr. Wong. He had a peaceful ending, painless, blameless, with a choir of sweet angels sending him off to "dance on the clouds" as the grandkids say.
Visitation will be at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 575 Jean- Talon Street, on Friday October 24, 2014 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
The Funeral will be held at St. George Antiochian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 25, with request to show your love to George through donations to his beloved St.George.
