A Life Full of Light: Annette Earlyn Patrice

Sunrise: May 2, 1958-Sunset: January 17, 2025.

Annette Earlyn Patrice was a radiant thread woven into the tapestry of countless lives, a gentle breeze that carried warmth and comfort wherever she went. Born under the Caribbean sun in Windward, Carriacou, she grew up amidst the rhythms of island life, the daughter of Clytie and Conrad Patrice. As the third of six children—Noris, Albert, *Annette, Rona, Gloria, Cosmos, she was a steady anchor in a family bound by love and resilience.

When Annette moved to Canada in the early 1980s, she carried with her the strength of her island roots. Toronto became her new garden, where she nurtured a community with the same care and tenderness she had always shown. She faced life’s storms with quiet strength, defeating breast cancer in her mid-20s with a resolve as unyielding as the rocks of her homeland. It was in Toronto that she met her soulmate, Terence Small. Together, they built a home in the South Shore of Montreal, where in 1994, the brightest light of her life, her daughter Tara, was born.

Annette’s spirit was like the first light of dawn—gentle, yet powerful enough to illuminate the darkest corners. Her laughter was a melody that could chase away clouds, her smile a warm embrace that wrapped around everyone in her presence. She was the quiet hero of her community, offering a listening ear, a helping hand, and an open heart to all who needed her. Whether comforting a friend, sharing her wisdom, or simply being there, Annette’s love was boundless, spilling into every room she entered like sunlight through a window.

Her passing leaves a void, but her memory remains a flame that will never dim. Her husband, Terence; her beloved daughter, Tara; her surviving siblings; four nephews; two nieces; cousins; and countless friends will forever carry the glow of her kindness and the echo of her laughter. Annette was a testament to the power of love, a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can ripple outward and change lives.

Let us honour her life by following her example—loving fiercely, helping selflessly, and moving through this world with the quiet grace of someone who knows the power of compassion. Like the sunset she so beautifully embodied, Annette’s light may have dipped below the horizon, but it will forever paint the skies of our hearts in hues of love and gratitude.
