Our Story

In 1902, Henri Bourgie established the funeral services company Bourgie H. & Co. and opened a first funeral home. In the mid-19th century, the company’s name was changed to Urgel Bourgie. In order to meet growing demand, the company branched out, adding new services such as embalming, funeral services and manufacturing coffins and hearses. The company also opened several other funeral homes in Montreal. Since then, Urgel Bourgie has continued to grow, acquiring many other funeral service companies, including the Parc Commémoratif de Montréal, the Jardins des Laurentides in St-Hubert, Laval’s Parc du Souvenir and the Feron funeral homes in Greater Montreal. The company has also bought out several well-known funeral homes in the Quebec City area, including J. Bouchard et Fils, Lépine Cloutier, the Parc Commémoratif La Souvenance, the Jardins Québec and Falardeau Bédard Roy. Since 2012, Urgel Bourgie / Athos has been a member of the Athos Services Commémoratifs group. The company is recognized as a leader in the Quebec funeral industry and as one of the most innovative funeral homes in Montreal.

Urgel Bourgie / Athos is comprised of six funeral complexes, three funeral homes and three memorial gardens in Greater Montreal.

Each service point provides a wide range of services, enabling us to support and guide you as you pre-arrange your funeral, organize the funeral of a loved one, or try to navigate through your grief.
